WHAT IS TAVR?
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (or TAVR) is a minimally invasive procedure in which a new valve is inserted without removing the old and damaged valve. Instead, the new valve is placed inside the old one.
WHO IS A CANDIDATE?
If you have severe aortic stenosis and are displaying symptoms, are not a candidate for surgical aortic valve replacement, or are considered high risk for surgery, you may be a candidate for TAVR.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
After your TAVR procedure, you can expect to spend two or three nights in the hospital: one in the ICU and one or two in a regular room. Most TAVR patients are up and walking the day of their surgery.
