Bio

Dr. Sammy D Rivas is a Board Certified General Surgeon who is also a fellow of the American Board of Surgery. He is pretty much a Texas boy who resided in Lubbock most of his life starting in High School at Monterey. He attended Texas Tech and the University Health Science Center getting his Bachelor’s in Clinical Laboratory Science. Then attended Medical School and completed his Surgery Residency at Texas Tech University Health Science Center. He joined Dr Woolam and Dr Mangold in private practice for a year before moving to Albuquerque for three years as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of New Mexico Health Science Center. There he was also the Medical School Clerkship Director in the Department of Surgery. He returned to Lubbock and joined Lubbock Surgical Associates. This group later merger with SWAT. Dr Rivas performs a variety of laparoscopic surgeries, with special interest in robotics to include foregut, gastrointestinal and various types of hernia repairs.

Dr. Rivas also performs thyroid, breast and various soft tissue excision. Dr Rivas is currently the Chair of the Surgery Section at Covenant Medical Center. He is also involved in the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery program at Covenant Medical Center. Dr Rivas is also a member of the American College of Surgery. Dr Rivas is married and shares six children with his wife, Amy Rivas. He enjoys spending time with his family and working out in his spare time.
