Bio

Dr. Purtell is a Board Certified General Surgeon, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as a Fellow in the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is a graduate of the University of Texas Medical Branch medical school in Galveston, TX. Dr. Purtell completed surgical residency at Texas Tech Health Science center and completed Fellowship at UT Houston at Memorial Hermann specializing in minimally invasive and robotic surgery with a focus on Bariatrics, Foregut and Colorectal surgery.

Dr. Purtell’s current practice involves minimally invasive and predominantly robotic surgical approaches in Bariatrics/Bariatric revisions , foregut/hiatal hernia repair and revisions, colorectal surgery, abdominal wall hernias and other traditional general surgery procedures. Dr. Purtell was born and raised in Lubbock, TX and outside of his surgical practice his time is primarily devoted to spending time with his wife and 5 children. He enjoys participating in sports and exercising, attending Texas Tech football and basketball games, fishing, and hunting.
