Bio
Dr. Bryan Bourland is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who focuses on the surgical and non-surgical management of shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. Dr. Bourland has specialized training and technical expertise in the areas shoulder arthroscopy, shoulder replacement, hand surgery, and care of upper extremity musculoskeletal pathology.
Dr. Bourland is a native west Texan having been born in Lubbock. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Iowa while on scholarship for the men’s gymnastic team. He earned his doctorate degree in osteopathic medicine (DO) from A. T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri. Following his medical degree, he completed residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Garden City Hospital through Michigan State University. Subsequently, this was followed by an ACGME accredited fellowship in Hand Surgery at UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania. Additional training in the areas of Arthroscopy and Shoulder Surgery was obtained through the ACGME accredited San Diego Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Program. In addition to his training, Dr. Bourland also served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery through Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Dr. Bourland understands the importance of listening to his patient’s concerns and goals when developing a comprehensive treatment plan, where non-surgical options are almost always the first line of defense. If surgery must be performed, he believes in utilizing the most innovative, effective and minimally invasive techniques available in order to reduce pain, restore mobility, and optimize patient outcomes.
Although it was a love of science that first drew him to medicine, Dr. Bourland finds patient care to be the most rewarding aspect of his practice. When not practicing medicine, Dr. Bourland enjoys spending time with his family, board games, reading history, and traveling.
